She Spoke Ashes
She Spoke Ashes is a new one act Anglo-Nordic dance-opera exploring the language and gestures of politics, especially how it impacts on female politicians, through movement, words and music.
From the same team who created the award winning interactive opera #echochamber Einkofi is thrilled to join the team as a producer taking it through development stages in 2024 with the generous support of Nordic Culture Point.
She Spoke Ashes investigates the urgency of the global state as it relates to both politics, equality and the destruction of our climate. By centralising deconstruction and collapse as the primary dramaturgical arc, the work explores how rhetoric influences discourse and how this in turn affects the relationship between people and power - and to our nature. Through the investigation of the hyperreal, the fragmented and the performative, the work seeks to find and express the core of a current existential melancholy; the longing to return to our own core, the core of community and the core of our future/nature.

Workshop I - Manchester 21st - 26th of April 2024
Einkofi Production organised a She Spoke Ashes workshop in Manchester, invited participating artists for a week of creative development, exploring the themes and language of the piece. Durning this first R&D week participants got the change to get to know each other and exploring where their boundaries of artistic expression lied with singers, dancers and musicians diving into each others field. The three content creators, Ingunn, Michael and Sarah worked collaboratively to find the sonic and movement texture of the piece by trying out music, movement and text. Working across artistic boundaries was often challenging but rewarding in a way of making the artists think outside their own perceived artistic abilities. This cross sector development is the main over all goal of this project, finding new ways to create, learn and grow.
Workshop II - Reykjavik 22nd - 26th of October 2024
Following a successful R&D week in Manchester back in April the artist group behind She Spoke Ashes met up again, this time in Reykjavik Iceland from the 21st to the 27th of October. Exploring material already created we use our time at Dansverkstæðið Studio in Reykjavík to further develop the concept, the musical and movement language as well as the impending arc of the piece. Sarah, Michael and Ingunn had met previously in August to plan this week to get the most out of it and the group came in with a plan of action, wanting to both work on previous material and try out new scenes to add to the final piece. The group even went on a moss research trip to Búrfellsgjá, getting the feel for nature and its vibrant colours and textures and felt so inspired.
